I’ve been trying out the platform Vocal Media. It’s one of the more recent writing platforms to appear on the scene, similar to Medium and Newsbreak.

I decided to try Vocal Media since they were offering a free one-month trial, but I’ve been active for two months and paid for the Vocal+ membership.

I recently ended my Vocal+ membership; here are my thoughts on the platform as a whole.

What is Vocal Media?

Vocal Media is touted as a platform for users seeking an alternative to Medium or to their own self-hosted website (ie…

The year 2020 is finally behind us. And while it’s true that the world hasn’t changed dramatically with the turning over of the clock, a lot of people are optimistic that the New Year has a much rosier outlook for us than the past 12 months.

Despite uncertainty, people are still eager to look ahead and to set those big hairy audacious goals for 2021. New year, new me, as the saying goes.

So, what are my plans for the year 2021?

Well, like many people, my 2020 was…

What is a content mill? Think of it as a sweatshop for creativity. A lot of writing for miniscule pay.

When I was first recruited by a content mill, I was excited. Finally, I thought, a chance to make money from my words.

But please don’t be seduced by the dollar signs. Here are some things you need to keep in mind should you decide to write for a content mill.

Content Mills Will Work You Like a Dog

The excessive workload is a clear red flag you’ve stumbled upon a content mill. What constitutes ‘excessive’ is subjective and entirely dependent on the individual, which is why it…

Hi. You don’t know me, and the fact of the matter is, I don’t really know you. Literally.

In 2019, I publicly announced in one of my most popular posts that I was leaving the writing platform Medium to focus on building my own website.

I felt convicted in my decision; at the time, Medium had switched things up so drastically that it was mandatory for all users to be part of the Medium Partner Program before they could get paid.

It was time to cut my losses and work solely on, Medium be damned.

Well, I’m here before you, in 2021, on Medium and humbly eating crow.

Wattpad is making a bid to dominate Gen Z programming.

In their first major move following their purchase by Naver in January 2021, Wattpad announced the launch of Wattpad Brand Originals.

An offshoot of the Wattpad Brand Partnerships program, Wattpad Brand Originals will look to use Wattpad’s vast library of stories to create new content aligned with established brands in order to reach the Gen Z market, who are notorious cord-cutters and seekers of ad-free viewing content.

I’m aware Wattpad has used its resources to create TV programs and…

This has not been a banner week for me.

I’m an early riser, and yet every day the previous week, I woke up late; getting out of bed was an endless struggle.

The approaching weekend filled me with dread; what wisdom could I possibly impart in my currently unmotivated state?

I think it had to do with the fact that it’s officially been a year since COVID-19 has flipped everyone’s world upside down.

Thinking about it makes me sober; the fact that a year from today, we probably all…

This post contains spoilers for Coming 2 America

Quick! What’s your top 5 favourite movies?

It’s not really a parlour trick, but if you corner me on the street and ask me what are my favourite films, I’d be able to list them off with ease. I’ve put some thought in this well-curated list.

I have taken the time to think about my favourite films. Here they are, in ascending order:

5. Matilda

4. Friday

3. 200 lbs Beauty

2. Goodfellas

1. Coming to America

Let’s get this out…

Sorry, not sorry — I’ve been all in on WandaVision.

For the past nine weeks, I have been glued to my TV screen every Friday to tune into WandaVision.

One of the only things to look forward to as my lockdown life persists, the weekly format of churning out a new episode every 7 days has built an anticipation that has reached a fever pitch I haven’t felt since Netflix made the art of binge-watching so accessible.

On I primarily discuss writing tips…

I’d like to offer an update on the writing process with my novel.

I completed draft 2.5(?) in December, and because I have an irrational fear of the Internet blowing up and deleting all the things from the cloud, I created the first physical copy of my manuscript for safekeeping.

It’s suggested you take time off after writing a draft, so I spent the first two months of 2021 actively avoiding UNTITLED SAILOR MOON YA NOVEL, and kept it out of sight and out of mind.

During this period…
